Your Mama raised you better than that

Today my son and I were driving along a country road in Tiny Township when Meghan Trainor’s No Excuses came on the local radio station. We bopped along, but we didn’t sing at the top of our lungs like my daughter and I used to. It was a private sad moment for me remembering how she used to cue up and blast this song after a shoot, but then, making a new memory with my son associated with the music felt good. Healing.

The lyrics were also strangely accurate as to how I feel about how my daughter describes me now. “You must have confused me with someone else.” And “Your Mama raised you better than that!”
