Is adult child estrangement cultural or generational?

Puttering in the kitchen the other day it dawned on me that this shit would not fly in other cultures. Other cultures have pretty intense expectations of their children. The children’s actions reflect upon the parents and that is widely acknowledged and accepted. You want to get an arts degree? Um, no. Medical school or bust. Engineering or we will hang our head at the family gatherings.

I wonder how many of parents suffering abuse at the hands of their kids are white and privileged, like me.

Then again, maybe it’s a Gen X parent with a Gen Z kid. Get X parents are guilty of over focusing on their kids, wanting them to have the attention they wish they’d had from their parents. Hmmm….
